After a few years of will-they-won’t-they Pacific Rim Uprising is finally on its way to the big screen. A sequel to what many critics deemed a flop, Pacific Rim Uprising sees Jake Pentecost, son of Stacker Pentecost, reunited with Mako Mori to lead a new generation of Jaeger pilots, including rival Lambert and 15-year-old hacker Amara, against a new Kaiju threat.

Stories of larger-than-life humans battling colossal creatures are far from new, but Pacific Rim plays with the formula by maintaining subtle similarities between the extradimensional Kaiju and the humans’ mechanized Jaegers. “To fight monsters, we created monsters of our own,” the washed-up Jaeger pilot Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam) explains in the film’s opening.
