Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is on track to open with a magical £18.4M at this weekend’s UK box office making it the 5th highest grossing 3 day opening of all-time and the highest grossing 3 day opening weekend for a PG movie. The Saturday box office of £7.9m was the second highest grossing Saturday ever, only behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In the UK/Ireland it also delivered the biggest Disney live-action opening of all-time, the biggest March opening weekend of all-time and #1 opening of 2017 to date.
At the US box office the film has taken $170m – making it the #7 debut of all time, the #1 March debut ever, and the #1 PG movie debut of all time (surpassing Finding Dory). It’s also the highest US debut ever for a Disney Live Action title. It’s the seventh Disney release to open over $150M. Saturday’s gross of $62.7M marks the #4 Saturday
of all time. In excess of $350M globally. Critics and audiences have praised the live-action musical, proving this classic story is really a tale as old as time.
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST now has the biggest opening ever for a musical in Ireland and the UK ahead of Universal’s Les Miserables (£8.13m).
Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is a live-action adaptation of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs.
