Movie Junction proudly supporting Breakthrough Cancer Research Charity Ball.

Movie Junction is delighted to support Cancer Research and will be donating free passes as prizes at the 25th Valentine’s Day Charity ball, which is being held at Fota Island Resort tomorrow evening. Last year’s ball raised an outstanding €50,000 for Cancer Research, and we hope many of you will be out tomorrow to support this extremely worthy cause!

The Valentine’s Ball, which has hosted approximately 300 guests every year, has delivered much needed funds to the Centre to advance new treatments through research.  Last year’s ball raised a phenomenal €50,000 for cancer research thanks to your kind support and generosity.

Breakthrough Cancer Research funds the development of new treatment options for poor prognosis and incurable cancers that do not currently respond to conventional therapies.  We work closely with clinicians in practice all over Ireland to significantly impact on the number of people who can survive the disease. Research programmes funded by Breakthrough Cancer Research must focus on translating lab discoveries into new treatment opportunities and over the past 10 years we have delivered more than 5 new treatments from lab discovery to clinical trial with patients throughout Ireland.  Last October one of our research programmes was identified by the prestigious worldwide publication New Scientist in their article ‘The Fightback’ as “one of the 5 most promising approaches to ending cancer.”

The Centre does not have any source of annual state funding and therefore is extremely reliant on fundraising efforts made by events such as the annual Valentine’s Ball.  Although we are living in challenging economic times, research must progress if we are to continue advancing new cancer treatments and positively impacting patient lives.
